Project 14 - vertical and horizontal frames

This project aim to explore the issue of vertical photo vs. horizontal one. I was asked to photo the same scene twice: horizontally and vertically, and decide which one works better to my opinion. Here are the photos:

Photo 1:
Oxford Castle

In this pair think the vertical photo works better with the length of the tower. moreover, I think that the horizontal one have unnecessary details.

Photo 2:
Wollfson College grounds

In this pair I prefer the horizontal photo. I think the green additional to the photo gives it a feeling of the wide open nature, and a more relaxed atmosphere.

Photo 3:
Relax

I prefer the vertical photo. I think the additional part in the horizontal photo makes it 'simple'.

Photo 4:
A fungi

I think that the composition is much better in the vertical photo which make it to my favorite in this pair.

Photo 5:
Family

Again, I prefer the vertical photo that have all the necessary whitin.

Photo 6:
Profile picture

I needed to take a photo of my husband for business matters. We sent the vertical one as we thought it looks more professional as the subject fills the frame better with little white background.

Photo 7:
Entrance to the Bodilian Library

Here I prefer the horizontal photo. the entrance seems to be more dramatic when the powerful building of the college dominant the background.

Photo 8:
Hungry doves

This is not exactly the same picture because weirdly the doves would not stay still... but I like the horizontal better, as it shows more doves, more 'messiness' and the photo seems more complete.

Photo 9:
Weight in the market

I like the vertical photo better, mainly because of the window in the background.

Photo 10:
A rose

Well, here I like both of the photos...

Photo 11:
A corner flower shop

I like the vertical picture better as it succeed to contain only the shop an the skies in the right composition, for my opinion..

Photo 12:
Clouds

It is quite obvious that I think that the horizontal photo is better. In skies, we're looking for the endless space which much emphasize in the horizontal one.

Photo 13:
A Football

In this pair I like the vertical photo better. I think this photo follows the golden section role and is more pleasant to the eye.

Photo 14:
Washing line

In this pair I think that the horizontal photo is nice, while the vertical one is just not interesting or nice at all.

Photo 15:
House number

Here I like the vertical photo. I think there is a good relation between the number '11' which is mainly vertical lines and the vertical frame.

Photo 16:
Books on shelf

In this pair I like the horizontal photo better, as much more books are in at which make it nicer.

Photo 17:
A flower

Here I like the horizontal photo better. I like there the relation between the flower and the green leaf.

Photo 18:
An old man-make cave

Here I like the vertical photo better, I think it capture the caves better and put the focus on the cave more than on the surrounding. In addition, I don't like the light in the horizontal photo, the right-up corner have to much light in it.

Photo 19:
A cut log

Here too I like the vertical photo better. I think that the capture of the continues log gives the photo depth and makes it more powerful.

Photo 20:
A golden fish

And for the final photos - I like the vertical photo better as it seems better composed and better lightning (also i must admit a little too dark but still better than the horizontal photo)
